# Rate limits and quotas

Each key has a per-second limit (one-second fixed windows) and a monthly call quota set by your
plan. See [pricing](https://healthcare.dev/pricing) for the numbers.

Every response carries:

RateLimit-Limit: 5
RateLimit-Remaining: 4
RateLimit-Reset: 1
```

Over the per-second limit you get `429` with `type` `rate-limited` and a `Retry-After` header.
On the Free plan, using up the monthly quota returns `429` `quota-exceeded` until the next calendar
month (UTC); paid plans keep working and bill the overage.

MCP tool calls count exactly like REST calls.
